Climate & Environment Action For All! | April 2025

Main Library's Climate & Environment Action For All! station is an initiative by Orange County Public Library, the Town of Hillsborough, the Green Team, and the Orange County Sustainability Department helping to make learning about climate and environment protection action simple and accessible regardless of age, economic status, range of ability, etc. Click to learn more about information and local events!

This month's highlights are:

• Seed Share - This month's free, native or naturalized seeds available at Main Library are American Beautyberry, Callicarpa americana.

   

• The 2025 Hillsborough Climate Challenge from April 1st - Earth day, April 22nd.

   

• Science Everywhere Day - Sat., April 5th, 12-4pm at UNC-Greensboro. For all ages. Admission and parking are FREE.

   

• Dig Deeper With Us - This month's gardening knowledge event takes place Sunday, April 27th at 2pm on the topic of Native Trees & Shrubs.

• Hiking Solo on the Appalachian Trail - Main Library welcomes Jen Brown, local hiker and Hillsborough native, as she shares firsthand stories, tips, and stunning photos from her experiences as a solo female hiker tackling the iconic Appalachian Trail.

   

• Nature of Orange Photo Contest for Youth and Adults is seeking works from photographers of all ages that capture the beauty of Orange County through nature. The theme for 2025 is "My Place in Nature" in Orange County. Click to learn more about the contest which is taking submissions through May 31, 2025. There will be 1st- 3rd prizes in both categories, youth and adult. Winning photos will be on exhibit at Main Library in September.
