Climate Action for Everybody | October 2024 Information & Events

Composting (Unpainted) Pumpkins - Pumpkins, gourds, corn, and straw bales make wonderful fall decor, but they take up landfill space and create methane when they are thrown away. The good news is that when these items are left unpainted, they can make great food for livestock and rich compost!

Leave Your Leaves Climate & Environment Campaign - Pledge to leave your leaves to get a yard sign and a tote bag to encourage others! Signs and totes are available while supplies last.

Leaving your leaves through spring supports pollinators, reduces waste, improves the ecosystem, and reduces flooding and pollution.

Native Tree Planting Season - Fall is the perfect time to plant native shrubs and trees in NC that will help to support the environment for generations to come. Check North Carolina Native Plant Society's Recommended Species Guide for plant information. Don't have a yard? Join one of the tree planting events with Eno River Association and NC Wildlife Federation on 10/17, 10/19, or 10/24.

Environmentally-Friendly End of Life Care: Green Burial and Aquamation, Saturday, October 19th from 2-3:30pm at Main Library - Join Hunter Beattie, founder of Endswell Funeral Home, for a discussion on environmentally-friendly disposition options. Learn more and register here.

Main Library's Climate Action For Everybody station is an initiative by Orange County Public Library, the Town of Hillsborough, the Green Team, and the Orange County Sustainability Department helping to make learning about climate and environment protection action simple and accessible regardless of age, economic status, range of ability, etc. Click to learn more about information and local events!
