100 Years of Celebrating Black History  - 2026 Marks 100 years of Celebrating Black History in February, first as Negro History Week and later as Black History Month. Celebrate this anniversary with activities and literature all month at Orange County Public Library.

Read Black celebrates Black histories and futures by highlighting books written by and about people across the African Diaspora. Stop by Main Library in Hillsborough and discover Black westerns and romances, afrofantasy, Black poetry, and many other genres. 

Black History Month Biography Zine Making - All month at the Southern Branch in Carrboro, check out books from our Black History Month biography display and use what you learned to create your own mini-biography zine using our template. 

American Classics with Local Author, James Maxey - In celebration of the Nation's 250th birthday, First Monday Classics has assembled a year-long journey through American literature with book discussions led by beloved local author, James Maxey. February's book selection is Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe. The discussion, which has been rescheduled due to a weather closing, will take place Monday, February 23rd from 6:30-8:30pm at Main Library in Hillsborough.
