Rules
From March 1st to March 31st, submit poems via email to to ocpltab@gmail.com. Submit your poem in Word (.docx) format as an attachment, and include your name and whether you would like to win tickets to Animazement or Minevention in the body of the email. [Note: These events take place in Raleigh in May.]
For this contest, "teen" means middle or high school aged, however you do not need to be actively attending school at the moment to participate.
Orange County Public Library serves Orange, Durham, Alamance, Caswell, Chatham, and Person Counties free of charge, and contestants can come from any of these counties.
Contestants may submit only one, 100 words or fewer poem.
Poems can be any type, theme, or topic, but may not contain language that is oppressive, abusive, or diminishing to others.
Winners of the contest will be decided and notified in early April by the Teen Advisory Board. TAB's top 15 entries will also be included in the newest edition of WaxPrint, the art and literary zine produced by TAB. Copies will be available at the library on April 15th, 2023
The poetry reading will be Saturday, April 15th at 2pm at the Main Library in Hillsborough where the prize winners (and any other contestants who would like to) will share the poems they submitted as part of a multigenerational poetry reading event that includes local authors. Prizes will be given at that time. The poetry reading is open to everyone, so feel free to bring friends and family.
Email Miss Kafi at kallah@orangecountync.gov with questions. Good luck! We look forward to reading and hearing your work!
