Hillsborough's Black & Indigenous History Guided Tour on Thursday, June 19, 2025 from 10-11:30am. The Tour will begin outside of the front doors of Main Library located at 137 West Margaret Lane, Hillsborough, North Carolina 27278. This event is free. Registration is required.

As part of BLAC Fest, Indigenous Memories and the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough present a 90 minute, guided walking tour of Hillsborough's Black and Indigenous History on Juneteenth led by Judge Beverly Scarlett. The tour will begin outside the front doors of Main Library (which will be closed) and follow a route through downtown and includes the history of Indigenous peoples, Maroons, Free People of Color, and enslaved people of Orange County. Registration is required. This event is free and open to the public.


NOTE: Please be aware that this is a walking tour over several blocks in and around historic areas and may include hills, uneven ground, and spaces with limited mobility for wheelchairs and strollers. Plan to wear comfortable walking shoes, and bring a water bottle as well as a hat and/or umbrella for shade. In case of bad weather, the tour will be postponed to another date.
